Red Cliffs Lodge
The observatory is the real draw, and it's a genuinely unusual amenity for a property this size. The roof opens directly onto the sky, and a guide walks guests through constellations, planets, and the occasional distant galaxy on a clear night. Whoever designed the space had a good sense of priorities: there's a wine cellar built right next to it, on the theory that a serious look at the universe pairs well with a serious glass of something afterward.
Dark Sky Details
The canyon itself does real work here — towering red rock walls block a meaningful share of the horizon in several directions, cutting down on scattered light even this close to a town the size of Moab. The compromise is honest: Moab's own glow is still faintly present to the west on a clear night, which is part of why this sits at Bortle Class 3 rather than the Class 1-2 range of more isolated properties in this directory.
What that trade-off buys in return is convenience without much real darkness lost — a working restaurant, renovated rooms, and a five-minute walk from your door to a riverbank dark enough to see the galactic core clearly for most of the year.
