Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge occupies 700 acres inside Jasper National Park, its cabins and lakeside rooms arranged around Lac Beauvert with the Rocky Mountains rising directly behind them. The park earned Dark Sky Preserve status from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada in 2011, and at roughly 11,000 square kilometers it remains the second-largest Dark Sky Preserve on Earth — a scale that matters, because it means the protected dark extends for tens of kilometers in every direction rather than stopping at a property line.

Every October the park hosts the Jasper Dark Sky Festival, one of the longest-running astro-tourism events in North America. The event draws astronauts, astronomers, and telescope-makers to a town that otherwise sits quietly at the edge of one of the largest protected wilderness areas in the Canadian Rockies. Guests at the lodge don't need the festival to benefit from the designation, though — Lac Beauvert's open shoreline offers an unobstructed view north, and the surrounding peaks block the minimal light pollution that does exist, from the small town not far away.

The lodge leans into its dark-sky identity seasonally with Symphony Under the Stars, an outdoor orchestral performance staged on the lakeshore, and its position at a latitude just north of 52 degrees means aurora is a genuine, if unpredictable, bonus on active solar nights between September and April.
